Snoring and sleep apnoea can be caused by the airway at the back of your throat narrowing while you sleep. Oral appliances, such as the SomnoDent® Avant™ from SomnoMed®, move your jaw and tongue forward while you sleep to open up your airway.
A custom-made appliance is made to fit your own mouth and teeth. Studies have shown that custom-made devices are more effective than off-the-shelf “boil and bite” devices. We work in partnership with a respiratory and sleep disorders consultant based in the North West.
Common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnoea include daytime sleepiness or fatigue, snoring, restlessness during sleep, morning headaches, a dry mouth or sore throat on waking, and waking suddenly feeling as though you are gasping or choking. If you think you may have sleep apnoea, please speak to your doctor or dentist.
